Chelsea have reportedly emerged as JJ Gabriel’s preferred destination if the Manchester United academy prospect decides to remain in England.
The 15-year-old is attracting interest from several of Europe’s leading clubs as uncertainty continues over his future at United.
According to the London Standard, citing reporting from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are Gabriel’s preferred Premier League option.
That does not mean Gabriel has chosen Chelsea.
The same reporting indicates that a move to Spain could still be more likely, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona pursuing the highly rated forward.
Chelsea have held talks over a potential move and have been described as the leading English contender for his signature.
Gabriel has asked Manchester United to cancel his registration, but the club have so far resisted that request and are continuing efforts to persuade him to remain at Old Trafford.
The situation could become clearer around 6 October, when Gabriel turns 16.
His potential departure has attracted particular attention because of his standing within United’s academy and the level of clubs competing for him.
Recent reporting has also suggested Gabriel’s family believe United have fallen behind Europe’s leading clubs as a development environment and want him to “play with the best and learn from the best.”
A move to Real Madrid or Barcelona would see one of United’s leading academy prospects leave English football altogether.
Chelsea would represent a different scenario: United potentially losing him directly to another Premier League club with its own significant investment in recruiting and developing young talent.
For now, Chelsea’s reported position is best understood as Gabriel’s preferred option if he stays in England, rather than his confirmed destination.
