Carrick Says United ‘Should’ve Won’ as Neville Condemns Second-Half Spell

Michael Carrick said Manchester United should have beaten Fulham after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

United created several chances during the game, hit the post twice and were denied repeatedly by Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Carrick said United had done enough to take all three points.

“We should’ve won the game.”

Carrick pointed to the chances United created and Leno’s performance in the Fulham goal as reasons for his assessment.

Gary Neville delivered a very different verdict on part of United’s performance.

The former United captain criticised the period before Fulham took the lead, when Carrick’s side struggled to maintain the intensity they had shown earlier in the match.

Neville described it as:

“The worst 15 minutes I have ever seen Manchester United play.”

Fulham eventually went ahead before Matheus Cunha scored an 89th-minute equaliser to earn United a point.

United had enjoyed stronger periods earlier in the game, but their drop in tempo during the second half allowed Fulham to take control before the opening goal.

The draw leaves United with five points from their opening five Premier League matches.
