Benjamin Šeško’s absence from Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham has reportedly been linked to a recurrence of the shin problem that affected him last season.
Šeško was left out of United’s squad for the trip to Craven Cottage after experiencing pain following Wednesday’s game against Brighton.
Michael Carrick confirmed before the Fulham match that the striker had reported discomfort and was undergoing assessment.
Subsequent reporting says the problem is a flare-up of the shin injury that disrupted the end of Šeško’s previous season and affected his preparations for the current campaign.
United are expected to reassess the striker during the international break before determining when he can return.
Šeško had recently returned to United’s starting line-up after his earlier injury problems. He scored against Sabah before starting against Brighton in midweek.
His absence leaves Carrick without United’s only conventional senior centre-forward.
United now have a three-week gap before their next Premier League fixture against Tottenham, giving Šeško additional time to recover before the domestic season resumes.
