Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Harry Kane’s contract situation at Bayern Munich and would be prepared to move for the striker if negotiations over a new deal break down.
Pete O’Rourke reports that United are keeping informed about discussions between Kane and Bayern as the German champions attempt to extend his stay in Munich.
There is no suggestion that United have approached Kane, opened negotiations or made an offer.
The reported interest is instead dependent on Kane failing to agree a new contract with Bayern.
His existing deal runs until 30 June 2027, meaning the England captain would enter the final year of his contract next summer if no extension is agreed.
Bayern are already attempting to prevent that situation.
Kane has confirmed that talks over a new contract are taking place and has indicated that he hopes his future will be resolved within the next couple of months.
An agreement is not currently imminent.
The striker has also made clear that he remains happy at Bayern, where he has established himself as one of the leading goalscorers in European football.
Bayern are reportedly confident that Kane will eventually agree an extension.
United’s position is therefore described as contingency planning rather than an active transfer pursuit.
If negotiations between Kane and Bayern were to fail, the contractual situation could create an opportunity for interested clubs.
United are reported to be among those prepared to react.
Kane has previously attracted serious interest from Old Trafford and would offer extensive Premier League experience as well as an established goalscoring record.
He left Tottenham for Bayern in 2023 after becoming the second-highest scorer in Premier League history.
For now, however, Kane remains a Bayern player and talks over extending his contract are continuing.
There has been no reported contact between United and the striker over a transfer.
The situation only becomes significantly more relevant to United if Bayern’s attempts to secure Kane beyond 2027 fail.
Until then, United’s reported interest amounts to monitoring a potential opportunity rather than pursuing an active deal.
